Your opinion: What's an effective medical plant for sinusitis?

"I am gathering a list with the most potent
medical plants and herbs for my book right now.
It is promising. Highlights of the most potent plants will be featured on my blog."

What's an effective medical plant for sinusitis?

When I was a little child, my mom told me not snuffle. I was still in kindergarden, and when I came home, especially in winter, the warm air in our living room was provoking a running nose. I remember how bitter cold this one Mid February was, the air outside seemed to build a wall you had to break through or to cut through with a knife. My grand parents, who looked after me from time to time, always insisted that I should rather use a tissue than sniffle "...because sniffling is a bad manner."

Today we know it is natural and ORLs recommend sniffling because it helps to regularly suction the sinuses. Blowing your nose significantly increases the risk of developing serious sinusitis symptoms, especially if you already have a cold.

There was a time when I had an unconscious angriness about my relatives for teaching me to blow my nose instead of snuffling. I felt that she was somewhat guilty for the development of sinusitis episodes that came later on.

However, something much more powerful showed up in my mind lately. It was another aspect of what I learned in childhood. A few months or so ago, I recalled how my mother taught me to prepare a tea that solved mucus. It was always very effective when I had a bronchitis. I recalled, how she used certain plant oils to facilitate healing inflamed wounds. She had a tea for bladder problems, it really worked and a friend of hers got rid of a serious skin problem called zoster after my mom had given her specific advise about a salve that contained a certain plant extract capable of healing the condition.

As I am writing "How I Won The Battle Against Sinusitis", I am stumbling upon medical herbs and plants again and again. In one way, this happens because I have been using them myself increasingly in the past years and months to get over a beginning sinusitis more quickly. In another way I am reminded about them repeatedly because my research for the book leads me to a large number of studies where a rising number of promising new plants are discussed.

No matter where I look, If I am reading over material from a big pharmaceutical company or wether I just read about new sinusitis research: Sinus infections seem to respond well to the use of many different medical plants.

I am gathering a list with the most potent medical plants and herbs for my book right now. It is promising. Highlights of the most potent plants will be featured on my blog.

If you have a potent plant candidate, please drop me a line. I look forward to hear from you.

Fresh garlic, an effective natural antibiotic. I am already using it against sinusitis today. It's one of the underestimated plants. However, many get scared off the smell after eating it. Well, with sinusitis, you will be suffering at home, and mostly alone anyway. Nobody will care, even if you smell like an ox.

Google Trends on Sinusitis, 1.1.2010 - Are you just a dinosaur that needs fresh air, like me?

Had you lived a few hundred years ago, chances are you wouldn't be suffering form sinusitis. Why? Because the air was cleaner that it is today.

Why are there so many additional cases of sinusitis reported in major metropolitan areas over the last years? Different studies show that air pollution seems to be one important cause for acute and chronic sinusitis and the dramatic increase in sinusitis rates during the last years. It is worth mentioning that the cities listed by google trends (r) are amongst the cities with strong air pollution: Santiago (Chile), Jakarta (Indonesia), Monterrey (Mexico), Lima (Peru), Mexico City (Mexico), Caracas (Venezuela), Bogota (Columbia), Madrid (Spain), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Delhi (India).

Obviously, there are many other heavily polluted cities which are not on the list, simply because medical care is less accessible, and also because Sinusitis is not called "sinusitis".
I invite sinusitis sufferers to search pubmed for the key words "air pollution" and "respiratory tract" or "sinusitis". Chances are that you conclude you want to leave the city if you are a dinosaur that needs the fresh air that existed thousands of years before you lived in downtown London, Mexico or Delhi.

Today, on 1.1.2010, I have searched google trends for the word sinusitis and found the above.
I will write about the topic of air pollution and other environmental factors and what this all might mean for the optimal lifestyle of sinusitis sufferers.

Kind regards,
Marcus

Presence of the Streptococcus pneumoniae in samples (...) may predict risk of severe disease in H1N1 pandemic influenza. :::Sinus-cure.net's Comment

My reply to day to alt . support . sinusitis:

"Strep makes H1N1 Deadly"

"THIS WOULD MEAN THAT A LOT OF YOU NEED TO GET THE VACCINE IF YOU CAN, and be very careful if you can't. It also means that if you get the flu, it is very important that they give you the effective antibiotics like the Azithromycin which are more effective against biofilms as opposed to penicillin derivatives like amoxicillian, which for some..." more »

My reply:

Whether the effect is associated with all S. pneumoniae still needs to be found out.. However, I think the times are over where people have had a real benefit from overused antibiotics such as amoxicillin. It's always best to try and find out what virus or bacterium it is that causes the sinusitis. If you include this step and refuse to take just some antibiotic, then most people will find they need clindamyc. / azithro. or harder drugs.

Against the bacteria, you can also try natural antibiotics: They constantly change because the plants that produce them alter the compounds used to kill bacteria and yeast, for ex. liliaceous plants help, for example garlic, or Tropaeolum and Horseradish. It has been shown that these can help just as good as classical antibiotics.
However, most sinusitis cases (90 percent), start with a virus infection. Antibiotics are only there to control bacterial (secondary) infections.

Tropaeolum, one of the most successful medical plants today in the fight against sinusitis and respiratory tract infections.
