Presence of the Streptococcus pneumoniae in samples (...) may predict risk of severe disease in H1N1 pandemic influenza. :::Sinus-cure.net's Comment

My reply to day to alt . support . sinusitis:

"Strep makes H1N1 Deadly"

"THIS WOULD MEAN THAT A LOT OF YOU NEED TO GET THE VACCINE IF YOU CAN, and be very careful if you can't. It also means that if you get the flu, it is very important that they give you the effective antibiotics like the Azithromycin which are more effective against biofilms as opposed to penicillin derivatives like amoxicillian, which for some..." more »

My reply:

Whether the effect is associated with all S. pneumoniae still needs to be found out.. However, I think the times are over where people have had a real benefit from overused antibiotics such as amoxicillin. It's always best to try and find out what virus or bacterium it is that causes the sinusitis. If you include this step and refuse to take just some antibiotic, then most people will find they need clindamyc. / azithro. or harder drugs.

Against the bacteria, you can also try natural antibiotics: They constantly change because the plants that produce them alter the compounds used to kill bacteria and yeast, for ex. liliaceous plants help, for example garlic, or Tropaeolum and Horseradish. It has been shown that these can help just as good as classical antibiotics.
However, most sinusitis cases (90 percent), start with a virus infection. Antibiotics are only there to control bacterial (secondary) infections.

Tropaeolum, one of the most successful medical plants today in the fight against sinusitis and respiratory tract infections.

Learn how to recover from the man who went through hell

I am writing a full book online.
Read it for free.

Don't Miss Out
On The Priceless Wealth of Advice
You Can Access On My Blog For Free
On How To Get Rid Of Sinusitis.

I Have Found Out That
All You Need To Recover
Is Available and Actionable.

If You’re Ready To Begin A New Live Today, This Is The Time To Act.
The Letter Below, Which I have Addressed To YOU, May Well Be The Most Important Letter To Read In Order To Change Your Life To The Better.

Dear Friend,

I have to talk to you for a minute. My name is Marcus Brinkmann and I live in Frankfurt, Germany. Now that you have found me, I need you to decide on something very important right away:

Do you really want to improve your life from today on and fight against Sinusitis?

If the answer is “Yes”, I know that you are taking this seriously, just as seriously as I did and as I still do as I am writing these lines.

I want you to know that I spent years of my life in a desperate quest for effective cures against sinusitis. I also considered to undergo surgery - until I heard from a mouth and throat specialist who suffered from sinusitis himself.

Even though he had this condition several times a year, he did not want the surgery. I found out that he was afraid of the immense risks involved in surgery. I reckoned he should know best, and finally decided against the surgery.

However, before I go on, I want you to know that I am a real person who you can contact and who has learned by experience how to fight sinusitis. I am the living proof that sinusitis can be fought with great success, even though many practitioners have told me that I would need surgery to live a normal life again.

Let me ask you:

  • Do you sometimes feel weak, just like you are not really in shape, even though your last Sinusitis episode ended a few weeks ago?
  • Do you ever feel angry or frustrated because you have got a sinusitis again?
  • Do you ever become sick with sinusitis just because there is a little more tension at work, or because there is a higher stress level at home?
  • Do you feel like you have Sinusitis too often in a year?
  • Do you often have headaches or cold feet of pain under your eyes?
  • Have you ever wondered if you can keep up the regular activities you have always done due to the lack of power and fitness you feel?
  • Have you ever doubted the effectiveness of antibiotics when you were treated against sinusitis the Xth..time and after wards you got sick again after a few weeks?
  • Do you wonder if there is more than the few things that most general practitioners tell you to do or to take?
  • Would you like to learn everything there is to know about natural remedies against sinusitis, about how your life can be changed to the better and about how to AVOID getting this horrible disease again?
  • Would you like to restore your health and to make a decisive step forward RIGHT NOW?

If the answer is “Yes” to any of the questions above, I have quite an interesting story to tell you: ..read on for GOOD NEWS:

My own answer to almost all of the above questions was, in fact YES! Until I decided to change my life and fight sinusitis. The questions above are extracted from many years of personal experience and suffering which have lasted for years.

I have learned more about this area than I would have imagined I could learn, and I am now putting the things and all the stuff that do work down in my blog "How I won the battle against chronic Sinusitis" I am writing it all down and now, it is there for you to provide a real shortcut to restore your health.

... And guess what? You are not alone. A very high percentage of Americans (and the Western World population) do suffer from (chronic) sinusitis. It is the habits and the life we live, the cures we use and the wrong questions we have asked that has led so many into the wrong conclusions on how to cure sinusitis.

I will put a new post online tomorrow with information on what you are going to learn.
I am looking forward to hear from you.

My best regards,
Marucs Brinkmann

Very simple first rough plan for improving sinus conditions right now

I am writing a book online.

Read it for free.

I just HAD TO quickly post this from my email before going to bed now:

Sinusitis: If you want to know how a very simple plan for improving your life right now can look like ...
... just follow these actionable, simple steps.

What I describe are not all the available sinusitis remedies, it is about your own life and how you cure sinusitis effectively in the long run:

1. Stop Focussing On Purely Indirect Sinus Inflammation Treatment And Learn What The Most Effective Natural Remedies Are

Imagine you discover a fire, burning in the middle of your sleeping room.

Would you close the windows, and then slowly suck the air from your sleeping room to slowly lower the percentage of oxygen in the air so the fire slowly extinguishes?

Wouldn't it be better to immediately grab two or three bottles of water, and throw the water directly at the fire so the ROOT of the problem is torn out?

-> What this means is: Many studies have shown that a variety of medications have an indirect effect on the sinus inflammation itself and thus it takes too long until the person with an acute sinusitis really feels better.

However: There are so many ways to improve the situation considerably. Herbal cures such as a selection of key essential oils help to slow the inflammation down. Enzymes are also a key instrument to treat sinusitis effectively.

In my this online blog-book, I will in fact be covering many "forgotten" cures in sinusitis treatment.

Forget everything you heard about useless home remedies such as vinegar in water or funny herbal mixtures. Start using very potent essential oils and combine them with enzymes. I will tell you exactly what to do in this area.

However, be warned: Essential oils are very potent and can harm you. You really need to know what you are doing. The points above are just a very small part of what I have found. You need a combination of both: physical removal of mucus and anti-inflammatory measures. Only both combined help to succeed in the short and long run.

If you are interested in THIS PARTICULAR PART, just send me an email and I will send you more information about this.
(
   )

I would also like to add something very important: Did you know that natural essential oil constantly changes? What I mean is that every time new plants are delivered to extraction into the distillery, a new mixture of substances is created and then sold. This is why many harmful organisms have never managed to adapt to many essential oils. In fact, plants protect themselves against many threats by producing the substances I am talking about. For example, Doxiciline will always be the same Doxiciline, and bacteria have adapted to it: they survive being thrown at with this substance. This is not the case with natural essential oils!

2. Prevent The Sinus Inflammation (Sinusitis) From Occurring Again

Many people do not understand how the vicious cycle of sinus infections can amplify itself over time. The completely underestimate the harm that acute sinus infections do to them.

What you have to do is to learn how effective prevention works. This involves knowing the very early signs of the disease and stopping it as soon as you recognize any early warning signs.

These signs will help you prevent the situation form getting worse. However, there are numerous signs that are overseen, misjudged or simply wiped from the table as they occur.

There are fundamental connections between the sinuses and another organ which are hugely underestimated today. These connections are clinically proven and built in every child during the early weeks of pregnancy. This is a killer tool against sinusitis and will help you to become healthier from the inside.

3. Make The Needed Changes To Your Life So That Sinusitis Belongs To The PAST

Actually, there are jar dropping facts and realities on why more and more people suffer from sinusitis, revealing that antibiotics can be very counterproductive for treatment. Now that you have made the decision to learn more about Sinus remedies, I'm about to tell you about could help you a great deal, because it is all based on my years of experience and practice, not theory.

I will post again tomorrow,

With my best regards,
Marcus

Preface to my online book about Sinusitis

"Many people will declare you
chronically sick if you are suffering
from sinusitis for more than three months
or if you have four or more episodes per year.

In my opinion, this declaration is just a sign of

capitulation of modern day mainstream medicine."

If you are suffering from sinusitis right now, I know you are probably feeling very exhausted. I understand that you will want to improve the situation as quickly as possible. This is what this online book will help you do. I am neither a physician, nor a scientist or therapist, but I have learned a lot about an illness that has cost me a lot of time, energy and patience. Today, I know how to avoid it from coming back most of the time.

If you have sinusitis occasionally or regularly, you are not alone: it is one of the most prevalent illnesses in today’s “civilized” world. It is occurring at an increasing rate. A rate which is, to me, more than alerting.

Health care experts estimate that 37 million Americans are affected by sinusitis every year. It is a fact that health care workers report 33 million cases of chronic sinusitis to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention annually. If you boil the statistics down to the basics, you’ll always arrive at the same ratio: one in seven people suffers from sinusitis at least once a year. This is true for the US and, for example, the country where I live, Germany.

I have long suffered from sinusitis - in a severe way. I went through hell. It didn’t matter if or if not I had taken the highest possible doses of the strongest NSAR painkillers available. I endured so much pain that I cried sometimes.

Computer tomography proved it: I happen to have – as so many other people – a deviated septum. It almost touches the left side of the inside of my nasal cavity.

Mouth and throat specialists in hospitals sent mixed messages of how severe my situation was. Some suggested surgery. “You will not get away with this. Do the surgery, there is no workaround!” Some said I would be able to live with it. “If I see your CT image, I say, you will easily be able live with that.” The ones who suggested a surgery where the physicians who spent a considerable share of their time in the operating theater. They earned a considerable share of their income with this activity. The other group, disadvising from the operation, did not operate on people on a regular basis.

Shit balls! This was not a good or neutral basis for any rational decision I was about to take. I spent a few months in a desperate quest for the truth. Until I heard from a mouth and throat specialist who suffered from sinusitis himself.

Even though he has had this several times a year, he did not want the surgery. I found out that he was afraid of the risks involved. He should know best, I said to myself. Finally, I decided against a surgery.

Many people will declare you as chronically sick, if you have had sinusitis for more than three months or more than four episodes of sinusitis within a year. However, this is just a helpless sign of capitulation of modern day mainstream medicine.

Labeling you as "the chronic" will not help you improve your life in any way. Read on if you want to end this.

Chances are that you can.

My best regards,
Marcus

Chapter One: Help for Acute Sinusitis – Read This if You are Currently Sick

Introduction

Let me say out loud what you might think right now: “For a chronic sinusitis, special measures and medication is necessary. This can include surgery. Oh my god – surgery? … At least, this is what my family doctor said.” Let me tell you what I think: In most cases, AND THAT MIGHT WELL INCLUDE YOURS, the surgical approach is not a better solution than optimal, appropriate medical treatment. Every professional today will tell you that surgery is the last resort. Only consider it if you do not experience sufficient relief from optimal medication. You are stronger than you might think you are. Give this a try and don’t give up!

Goals of this Chapter:

  • To list and describe effective and available drugs and processes often forgotten or underestimated
  • To describe some of the overestimated drugs and measures sometimes suggested by non-professionals.

I kept this first chapter brief because it is designed to cater to the short attention span you will have when suffering from acute sinusitis. Don’t worry; it is normal that you cannot concentrate for more than five to ten minutes if you have a sinusitis.

However, before you read on, I want to drop the anti-sympathy bomb on the homeopathy-activist-league of America, Europe or whatever geography you live in. My experience is: none of the homeopathic products I took against sinusitis have ever really helped. I had tried more than a dozen different “flavors” after the recommendation of a trained homoeopathist. If homeopathy works for you – fine. For me, it never worked against sinusitis. I never experienced a shortening of the time I was sick or any permanent improvement of my situation.

If you are into homeopathy, chances are that you will neglect other truly effective therapeutic measures you could pursue. Let me add the remark that homeopathy is not to be confused with herbal medicines or other natural medications available. In fact, they can be so strong that the side effect will kill you if you don’t watch out.

Silver bullets for sinusitis treatment

Before I describe the possibilities I discovered, the roots of the illness and a three-level escalation plan to fight it, I will give you five silver bullets to check now if you have an acute sinusitis. There are a few often forgotten details within five important areas.

-       Drugs frequently prescribed by general practitioners or ORLs: If a real professional like a ORL has prescribed you antibiotics, take them and ensure that you take them on time and in a sufficient dose. Read the information packaged with the drug.
Now, in addition to or after you have taken the antibiotics for a few days or weeks, try taking enzymes. I used Serrapeptase. The other option is Bromelain. These enzymes can add a lot of value in both cases: without antibiotics or combined with antibiotics.

-       Hygiene: Studies indicate that regular jala neti is helping sinusitis patients as much as taking antibiotics. Use clean water, preferably after boiling it for a few minutes, and rinse your nose with a solution of salt and water that resembles the salt concentration of your body. Do not apply cold but at least hand-warm. If you cannot apply the solution because your nose is blocked, use a decongestant nasal spray to make it possible. You will be astonished about the “waste water” flowing out of your nose.

-      Underestimated Drugs – Naturopathy: Take Gelomyrthol and drink three liters of water a day. Gelomyrthol is one of the most potent medications without bigger side effects. It is a good solvent for mucus.

-       Allergies: Is it summer? Do you suffer from allergies? Try to take a potent histamine-blocking drug such as Telfast. Do not use the light versions which are prescription free. I have personally experienced strong improvements when taking Telfast. Often, allergists do suffer from a cold or sinusitis just because they have an allergic reaction. If you discover that the acute sinusitis disappears after a few days, consider taking it regularly and consistently during your personal “allergic season”.

-       Psychological and social factors: Say goodbye to the consistently present pressure of saving a sick day here and another there at work. It is not beneficial but puts you under a lot of stress. Accept that you are seriously sick. Stop playing the problem down. Lies no more. You may have to change the attitude you have to yourself and understand that you won*t be able to do any exercise / sport within the next one or two month. Tell your boss you are really sick, and do not try to save one or two days. What do you win if you commit yourself to a deadline, such as: “I ll be back at work in three days..” Instead, take the time you need to recover, and be aware of the 2 days you will need after the pain and fever is gone to sleep your way out of the exhausting past weeks or days you experienced.

I will write about My top five treatments to stay away from because they are useless in my next post.
Feel free to comment on my thoughts. Do you think I am missing important points?
Kind regards,
Marcus

Chapter One: Sinusitis treatments to stay away from

My top five treatments to stay away from because they are useless

The following medications and measures have not helped me. Try them if you want, but don’t blame me if this doesn’t help. In fact, I suggest to stay away from the following drugs because they will often distract you from better cures available and eat up valuable life-time.

·   Hot milk, or hot milk with honey:
This is counterproductive and I openly suggest against it. In later chapters, where I speak about nutrition, you will learn why. Stay away from milk.

·   Sinupret ® Bionorica:
This has not helped me. I have had sinusitis many times and have a good comparison of what changed my suffering into the better and what did not. So, in my opinion and for my personal situation, Sinupret ® is not really a great help. You can try it but for me it is pretty useless.

·   Antibiotics as the single treatment:
Do not make the mistake to do nothing else than taking the Cefaclor or whatever your ORL or other physician has prescribed. Instead, support the process. Use enzymes in addition and keep your nose moist for God’s sake. Use mucus solvents to make thick slimy carpets in your nose and sinuses thinner and more fluid. Rinse your nose and get enough sleep. Don’t just take the pills; you can do so much more.

·   Excessive heat or excessive cooling of the aching areas (sinuses) of your face:
Be careful. Only use infrared light, or better an electric heating towel for a few minutes. In many cases, you might feel how narrow paths to the sinuses are opening, and pain suddenly disappears. If you have reached this goal within 10 or 15 minutes, fine. Now it is time to stop. Never apply heat to inflammations on a constant basis. Cooling has never helped me. However, light cooling (do not use pure ice) might help. Again, do this for a short period of time only.

·   Drinking water instead of isotonic solutions:
If you have fever or severe diarrhea, drink isotonic solutions such as Gatorate ® (US, Spain, Germany etc.), Aquarius ® (US, Spain, Germany etc.) or add a powder such as Isostar to your water.

Marcus

Part 1 of Chapter Two: My Personal List of the Top 8 Early Warning Symptoms

Chapter Two: My Personal List of the Top 8 Early Warning Symptoms

"It is noon. You sit at work and feel overly tiered and have severe problems to focus. You feel a light pain in the back of your head and your right eye aches. You have had a light diarrhea for the last 3 days. You feel lightly agitated. Yesterday, you suddenly woke up with toothache, but it disappeared during the day. Pull the safety line now, my friend."

Goals:
  • To list and describe symptoms you might have before an acute sinusitis starts
  • To remind you that any unusual symptoms must be taken seriously
  • To make you understand that illness requires slowing down your life until health is fully restored.

One in Seven?

In the US, about one in seven people suffer from sinusitis every year. Have you had a sinusitis a few times until now? Or are you currently sick? Then this chapter is for you, because it will help you to reduce or avoid this illness in the future. I know how stressful and frustrating it is to have sinusitis or to feel it developing.

However, I have found out that there are – at least to me – a hand full early warning signs – symptoms I could look out for. I know this might sound a little Vodoo to you. Trust me, this is something that helps me today and I can only encourage you to memorize early symptoms and be sensitive to this.

These are the symptoms you should be aware of:
Symptoms associated with pain emanating from the sinuses
  • Aches near the inflammation center: There are in fact three different types of aches I regularly experienced even before the sinusitis was present. Let me give you this warning: The following symptoms, especially in combination, were for me the last warning sign posts before a sinusitis started. Sometimes, it only took another day and I could feel the fire spreading out behind my nose, into the back of my head and up to my eyes.

In my personal opinion, the special nature of the aches will sometimes make people think they have something else: The aches do not occur where the sinuses are or within your nose. Instead, they frequently are felt somewhere else. If you have a problem with your heart, you might have pain in your left shoulder. If you develop a sinusitis, pain can often be felt in the eyes, at the back of your head and in the teeth. The following symptoms might warn you in the future.

Do you feel a light headache in the back of your head, or on the side? It often gets more severe if your heart rate increases. Then the pain starts to pulsate. You might think this is a plain vanilla headache and you might take a Tylenol® (Paracetamol) or Aspirine (Acetylsalicylacid) against it. Big mistake. Instead, try to take a decongestant nasal spray. Does the headache, the fatigue and the concentration problems go away? Yes? Then the pain might well be coming from the inside of your nose.

  • Toothache: Do your teeth in your upper jar hurt? It might feel like a fowl tooth. The ache can be very strong. Often, it will just be on one side. What does the dentist say? Nothing to see? Is it stronger in the morning, when your nose is as dried out like a sheet of paper because it is wintertime and the heating is sucking the last drop of water out of the air in your sleeping room? You might have an inflammation in your lower sinuses. A decongestant nasal spray might change it all within five minutes. If it does, go to an ORL. If it doesn’t, see an ORL – it is urgent. He or she can do a sonography and assess what is happening.

  • Aching eyes: Do you feel a light pain under, behind or “in” your eye? It will often be only one side, but this could happen with both eyes in rare occasions. If you press lightly on your eye with the tip of a finger, with your eye closes, does this hurt even more? Do you have the feeling that the pressure in your eye is too high? Do you also feel tired? The pain could also be in your forehead, just above one or both eyes. In many cases, this will feel like having a wall in front of you, and when you try to concentrate or work, you are struggling against the wind or a thick soup of mist.

Early warning signs: First aches near the sinuses are often felt elsewhere.

Kind regards,
Marcus

Part 2 of Chapter Two: My Personal List of the Top 8 Early Warning Symptoms

Symptoms associated with exposure to inflammation

  • Fatigue: Are you overly tired, for example after work? Is your energy level extremely low? Do you feel going to the gym or doing your usual round of jogging will be too much for you today after or before work? Do you feel a little sick and even more tired when you ignore the warning sign and still do your jogging or gym or whatever? Yes? THEN STOP IT. Get over your ego, just as I did. Start to sleep as much as you can. Use the weekend to sleep. Use the work days’ evenings to go to bed earlier. Cancel the dinner date with your friends, postpone the cinema date with this new person you just met. They won’t run away. Reduce everything to the minimum. An inflammation could be present in your sinuses. A sinusitis could be just around the corner.

Take the symptoms seriously. I know this seems like it will make your life more boring, but in fact you are just being more honest to yourself. You will feel so much better after you have slept more. Forget your goddamn gym training plan, your golf club pals, your horseback riding activities. What is it good for if you get sick every other month with sinusitis? You need to become healthy first. After this you can slowly start to work out intensely, go jogging, dancing or fighting again. Chances are that you will be able to practice your sport again just as you did this before you got sinusitis. But this takes a little time. Maybe three or four or six months. Give your body a break and give yourself the time to learn more about this illness.

  • Diarrhea: Do you have a sour stomach? Do you produce soft excrements? Does your lower belly hurt? I am not an expert on this, but let me share one fact with you: Every time I had a sinusitis, a light form of Diarrhea went before that. I had this for 3 or more days. Maybe a week. Then the sinusitis came. There are quite a few people who talk about the dependencies between the mucous membrane of the respiratory system and the digestive system.
It is a proven fact that overly sour milieus will harm all mucous membranes. I have learned that a healthy digestion and overall health are directly interconnected. If you have Diarrhea, eat healthier and see a doctor. Do not only take something against the symptoms but improve the overall situation. Later chapters will tell you how.

  • Cold feet / Cold nose: Do you feel like your feet are often too cold when at work or generally during the day? There is a link between the temperature of your feet and your nose. This not a zen-like thing – it’s a scientific fact. However, cold feet are more often noticed than a cold nose. In many cases, you nose will also be too cold and you are about to catch a cold.

  • Rhinitis: Do you have a cold? How many tissues do you need on one day? More than two? A normal rhinitis and also hay fever can become the origin of a quickly spreading inflammation of the sinuses, especially if you have sour mucous membrane or an anatomical predisposition for sinusitis. Fight every rhinitis, take this seriously. A rhinitis is not a necessary condition for a sinusitis, but it can become dangerous for your health. Avoid the situations that make you get a rhinitis. Avoid the swimming club if you get a cold from the chlorine in the swimming pool water. Keep your nose warm at work by standing up and walking around. Keep your feet warm. I will tell you more lately.

  • Nasal secretion “street”: Can you recognize a line of secretion running down the back your throat? This can be a sign for sinusitis. See the picture below:

    • Night sweat: Not all cases of night sweat indicate that you have an infection. You could also have a problem with your heart. However, if you sweat at night and have other symptoms such as cold hands and feet, consult a doctor to find out what the problem is. For me, night sweat is a symptom that fits well into other early symptoms of sinusitis.
If you have unspecific tooth ache, cold feet, a rhinitis and fatigue, chances are that the next sinusitis episode is around the corner.

    Psychological Symptoms

    • Feelings of agitation or being overwhelmed: For some people, (and at least for me at some times) the distinct symptoms are not visible enough to be noticed. However, at times, we will feel agitated and overstressed instead. A little tired in the morning and pumped out already at noon.
If you feel agitated, if you sweat quickly, when just doing light work or walking up a light slope, or if you feel like you are not up to the tasks you normally are able to manage, lay down in the evening and close your eyes. Check if you can feel the other symptoms described above.
If there is nothing – fine. If you consult this list of symptoms and can clearly spot a few symptoms, slow down and do something against a proliferation of bacteria in your nose as described in the next chapter.
     Kind regards,
    Marcus

Part 1 of Chapter Three: Sinusitis – a Portrait, From “acute” to “chronic”

Chapter Three: Sinusitis – a Portrait

    Goals:
    • To explain how fast “acute” can become “chronic”
    • To explain the basic physiology
    • To show you how severe it can become – for workaholics

    From “acute” to “chronic”

You might have had sinusitis for the first time. There are no reasons that it might come back. Right? But why do so many people get sinusitis so often? There are many researchers in the world to find out, but one important part in the puzzle is the time needed to fully cure an acute sinusitis. It’s not days, but weeks. I don’t want to make any scientific statement so do not ask me how long it takes to fully recover from an acute sinusitis. But let me tell you this: You are better off to be sick and out of the office for two weeks and take a little vacation after this (maybe one week) to get three weeks for some recovery. The sinuses are very sensitive and complex – they need a lot of time to recover from a severe inflammation.
à If you manage to find enough time to recover from an acute sinusitis, chances are that this disease will not come back so quickly. Three days are not enough, trust me.

Get the idea? We all know where this thought leads us to. Look at the image above. It is an exemplified course of sickness and the healthy phases I experienced myself a few years ago. In January, I got really sick with a sinusitis. I used a lot of nasal spray to ease the pain and get rid of it. The spray dried out my sinuses like hell. However, it worked. I recovered within one and a half weeks. Then, end of May, I got the next sinusitis. I inhaled hot water with cineole and used less of the spray. I slowly realized that the smoky office environment I worked in the whole day dried out the tissues in my nose. This happened slowly, so slowly that I had not realized this first. I recovered, but did not feel as fit the following two months. I took only 2 and a half month and I got sick again.

I had never taken 3 or 4 weeks off work to cure this. Instead, I tried to reduce the time off work in order not to look lazy. In the following 5 months, I had 4 episodes of sinusitis, and even when it was gone I felt weak and tired. The truth is, I had never been cured. I realized I was chronically sick and, luckily, was able to quit my job. I found something new in a completely smoke-free environment and I also learned more about the options I had concerning medication: I used Serrapeptase ® Takeda, Gelomyrthol ® Pohl Boskamp and exclusively consulted ORLs instead of incapable general practitioners, who often cannot tell a rhinitis from a severe sinusitis.

What I really want to tell you is that acute phases of sinusitis can lead to chronic conditions that are not obvious to you. Many people fight their way through everyday life and their job while being tiered and pumped out. They sometimes do not even realize they have sinusitis in a chronic state. One sign of chronic sickness for me was that even when I had recovered, I didn’t feel healthy. This had been the red, blinking warning light that signaled to me I had to change the way I worked and lived.

Part Two of Chapter Three: Sinusitis – a Portrait

    A glimpse of the physiology

Inflammation of the paranasal sinuses is what physicians call a rhinosinusitis. Bacterial, fungal, viral infections or allergic reactions can be the cause(s) for the illness.

If you look at the picture below, you will immediately see that there are numerous cavities in your head where sensitive soft tissues exist. Your task is to keep these soft tissues moist, clean and healthy. On the simplified image drawing below, you can see frontal, ethmoid and maxillary sinuses. There are also sphenoid sinuses – below of what we see on the image.

All I want to explain here is that a sinusitis is not a “cold” – it’s not a simple rhinitis. Your sinuses are a sensitive and complex system. The airways to these sinuses must be open, free and healthy. Depending on the location of the inflammation, the problems and the pain can originate from one or several sinus cavities:

    • Frontal sinusitis
    • Maxillary sinusitis
    • Ethmoid sinusitis
    • Sphenoid sinusitis

Now you might have learned a few basics. If you haven’t seen this picture before, it will usually have to effect to wake you up. Do not risk neglecting an acute inflammation in one or several of these sensitive, big cavities. A rhinitis can often be the start of this. Furthermore, for many people, a sinusitis will develop as one part of the bigger picture of other respiratory tract diseases. You get tonsillitis and suddenly you also have a developed sinusitis. There are many researchers and scientists who believe that sinusitis is more or less just one part of a bigger number of related diseases occurring in the respiratory tract.

Possible complications – Read this if you think your sinusitis is not worth careful treatment

Do you “only” have an acute sinusitis? You have a lot of work to do and cannot quit smoking? No time to see an ORL? Well, I don’t want to make you nervous, but some people are awkwardly unaffected when they have this condition. If you are not nuts, complications should not occur. However, if you have a viral or bacterial infection, which you don’t handle accordingly, it may produce cause life-threatening situations.

I’ll keep it short. Examples of complications are:

    ·      Brain / meningitis – The Infection passes through a certain bone structure and may infect the cells that are near the brain. An abscess can develop in the brain if the infection travels to the brain. This is a life threatening condition
    ·      Eyes – Infections could spread to the orbit, causing complications such as light inflammations of the eyelid to conditions resulting in blindness.
    ·      Asthma – If you have asthma and a chronic sinusitis, a sinusitis episode can provoke asthma attacks.
    ·      Fatal infections – due to aneurysms or infected blood clots in the intracranial cavity
    ·      Permanent loss of smell and taste due to nerve damages
    ·      Destruction of bone due to chronic sinusitis

Part 1 of Chapter Four: Three Level Plan to Cure and Prevent Sinusitis

Chapter Four: Three Level Plan to Cure and Prevent Sinusitis

I have a lot of respect for people like you who have suffered from sinusitis. I know that you are willing to continue the fight. From now on, you will begin to win it. The experience I have made in years has flown into this chapter. If you are ready to put some effort into evaluating the measures I describe, there will be immediate improvements. This is how my system works:

    • The three level plan represents an “escalation pyramid”

    • The must have measures and medication are described in the base of the pyramid (level one). If you do what I suggest there, changes are you will see great improvement of your situation. You might fully recover within weeks and stay healthy.

    • If this is not enough: You will have to add the measures in level two. This level contains certain changes in habits, hygiene and stronger / different medication. I have personally “landed” in level many months ago, but was able to permanently stay in level one until today.

    • You will have to change your lifestyle to escape sinus surgery if you have done everything in level one and two. This will only be an option depending on the cause of your conditions and the professional situation you are (caught) in.
Three Level Plan to Cure and Prevent Sinusitis

    _________________
    Level 1:

See an ORL: Allergy? / Bacteria? / Virus? / Fungus?
Nasal spray and nose clensing / Inhalation of essential oils.
Enzymes, for ex. Aniflazym® Takeda, 3x2 a day, for a week or more.
    !Smoke-free environment / Quit smoking!
Additional sleep, reducing sports to a minimum for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

    Level 2:
Keyboard / eating in front of computer?
    Never blow your nose
    Antibiotics (+Clavulanic acid) & Antiphlogistics
    NSAR Painkillers
Limonene and Cineole, for ex. Gelomyrthol ® Pohl Boscamp

    Level 3:
    Change of lifestyle
Reduce flights & business trips to the minimum

    Last resort:
    Functional or radical sinus surgery
    _________________

None of the measures and processes described within the first three levels will cause pain or hurt you. They are all designed to ease the symptoms plus to get your body back into the state is has been before you got sick. For example: Some people are afraid of nasal cleansing because they do not know how to do this right. Others think that antibiotics will make their body weaker, ob damage their immune system. This is not true. Antibiotics are the hell if you are hypersensitive to them. What do you do if this is the case? Yes – you will stop taking them. If you are afraid of painkillers: Chances are you will eat these daily in hospital when you are old. This is my personal opinion at least. You know, you have the choice between three to six or seven Diclophenac pills or zero sleep for four to five nights. What is better? I say, use analgesics responsibly and get some rest instead of a sinusitis with complications plus possible life threatening conditions.
In most cases, the surgical approach is not a better solution than optimal, appropriate medical treatment. Every professional today will tell you that surgery has to be seen as the last resort.

Level One – The Cleanout Program

The first level might be all you need to stay healthy in the future. It aims at improving the health of your airways. In our modern day live, several factors disturb the natural defense system of our sinuses and the self-cleaning mechanisms of our airways in general:

    ·      The wrong food makes tissues too sour (ph-value) or sick
    ·      A lack of exercise and sunlight negatively influences our immune system
    ·      Cold / dry air reduces the natural purification mechanisms of the airways
    ·      Dust and especially smoke severely disturbs the movement of the hair-like structure on the mucus membrane up to a point where it simply overwhelms the membranes
    ·      A lack of physical exercise (-> office work) cools tissues down without any chance of temperature compensation by increased blood flow or protection.
Simplified view of mucus membrane with dust, cilia and mucus cells

In the image above you can see the cells (mucus cells) in the mucous membrane, which produce both, a thin and a thicker variant of mucus. Mucus has central importance to respiratory tract health: It contains antiseptic enzymes and immunoglobulin serving as a protection shield against diseases.
The thin mucus travels through the tiny hair-like projections (cilia), which sit on the mucus membrane. On top of the cilia and the thinner mucus “swims” the thicker variant of mucus that “catches” the dust, viruses and bacteria particles present on the tissue. The trapped incoming dirt particles are moved by the cilia toward the front of the nose or down the throat for eternal extinction.

The cilia play a key role in transporting alien particles away, together with the mucus. They move like a cornfield in the wind. A wave-like motion keeps the mucus in motion. If the mucus membrane cools down excessively, the movement of the cilia slows down to a degree where infections can begin to spread.
If the membrane dries out, the movement is also disturbed. Thick cigarette smoke significantly changes the activity of the cilia and negatively influences its functions. The time you smoke is the time when you drop all your barriers to the outside world – welcoming external viruses, bacteria and irritants to which you might react allergic.

To increase the success rate, we will always combine the following four factors:

    So let’s start.

    Get the best possible diagnosis:
You will have to significantly improve the potential of diagnostic quality that you have access to. If you don’t already do it: Go to a otorhino-laryngologist (ORL). Stop consulting your general practitioner. Chances are that he or she has no real clue what to do and no instruments to diagnose correctly what you have. A simple endoscopy (painless), a sonography and a lot of experience will help determine the exact problem you have. Remember: The sinuses are a complex system. There are narrow canals between nose and sinuses. If these connections are blocked, a “traffic jam” is created in one or several sinuses, causing inflammation and pain.

This will be your new daily routine:
Our goal is to re-open the canals connecting the sinuses and to make mucus thinner again, so it can transport germs and viruses together with all the other dust into the throat (where it is swal-lowed and inactivated later) and to the front of the nose.

When you wake up, start your day with a short inhalation session. This is a measure within the framework of naturopathy. Get an inhalator to make this process more reliable. Do not use a big pot with hot water because too much of the ingredients will evaporate without being used. Inhale a strong mixture of Cineole, Levomenthol and racematic campher. Anithing such as Transpulmin ® will work very fine. You should use a paste (which you put in hot water) strong enough to get the tears into your eyes if you would open them over the aerosol. Inhale this with care. Wait a little until the water is not 100 degrees Celisus any more. If your nose is congested in the morning, use a nasal decongestant 10 minutes before. Only then inhale.

After inhalation, if you need to blow your nose, do it VERY CARE-FULLY, with low pressure. I strongly recommend that you do not blow your nose. Rather, snuffle (as loud as you wish). This will suction-clean the sinuses. ORLs recommend it, too. I know that sounds very strange, but I would do it if I where you.

Inhale at least three times a day, up to 5 or 6 times if you wish. This keeps your nose moist and helps to reactivate the cilia on the mucus membranes. You should continue the inhalation routine (1 or 2 times a day then) for months after you have cured the sinusitis. You could do inhalation sessions you entire life, if you wish. There are no side effects. Be careful with (inhaling) camomile extracts: many people are in fact allergic to this and it doesn’t make mucus more fluid.

Be careful with nasal sprays if they contain decongestants. The dry the nose out and can harm the tissues in your nose. They are a great help if you use them temporarily but try to use them only a few times – maybe 2 or max. 3 times the first day, then less the second day. Then maybe once a day in the next 2 to 3 days when you really need it. Beware that nasal spray can host germs and viruses if you have already used them. Do not reuse a 2 weeks old spray. You are better off throwing it away.

To fight inflammations, we will use enzymes. Some will put these into the naturopathy category, others into the mainstream medicine section. However, many physicians forget to prescribe of suggest enzymes. Get Aniflazym® Takeda in a pharmacy in Europe, or buy the equivalent of 10,000 units per pill of serrapeptase wherever you live. Take 3 x two pills a day. The other option is Bromelain. Do not use Bromelain if you are allergic to pineapple. These enzymes are given to patients who have had an operation, to prevent wounds from inflammation. They are also prescribed to people who have an acute sinusitis, but, as I said, many doctors seem to have forgotten about it. Serrapeptase and Bromelain are two of the forgotten cures for sinusitis. Both, Serrapeptase and Bromelain are a great help, whether you are taking antibiotics or you don’t.

If you would like to make a dry nose moist again, and if you want to activate the natural purification process of your nose, get Nasodren® or any other spray that has an extract of cyclamen europium L or a little “pepper” in it. Use it once or twice a day and don’t overdo it. It is expensive but it helped me. Nasodren® should be a part of the puzzle, especially when you are not sneezing and if your nose is just dried out.

Perenterol® will help you to strengthen your gastrointestinal tract. A very vise man once said that we “eat and drink” most of the diseases we get. The bowel is responsible for many illnesses if it is weakened itself. I cannot prove but assume a very strong relation between the gastrointestinal tract and the respiratory system. This comes from my own experience. However, if you already have diarrhea, make sure you take Perenterol® Forte (saccharomyces boulardii) 3 times a week at least. You can take double the dose if you like.

Pain: If you feel you need a painkiller, ask for it. This will help you to get some sleep. One night without sleep doesn’t kill you. Two nights is bad. You might need anything from Paracetamol to Diclofenac (which is better for toothache) up to Ibuprofen. Be aware that all painkillers have a negative effect on your digestion system and column. Drink enough water and sit upright for a few minutes when you take them. The probability of side effects increases with the quantity you take. Always take the smallest dose necessary to be able to sleep. Be aware that constant overdoses of NSARs over several days will kill you. The good old Paracetamol ® is one example for this. Read the package insert of all painkillers you ever use and memorize the maximum dose you may take.

Reduce sports activities to a minimum for at least 4 to 6 weeks:
Take this suggestion seriously. The most dangerous phase is after an acute sinusitis, when you think that you are cured. Stay away from the gym and other activities for 4 to 6 weeks, of longer if you feel exhausted. You will naturally feel it when your body signals you that more exercise will be beneficial. Especially if you have problems walking up a light slope, if your heart rate is too high when you go jogging etc. stop the activity. Notice that streptococcus could be a part of the germ population in your airway. If your heart gets infected with this bacterium, you are in deep shit. If you don’t want an heart attack while on your next jogging tour, STAY AWAY FROM EXERCISE until you feel fit again.

    Quit smoking:
Unless your sinusitis is not caused by a massive physiological problem, such as an extremely bent septum or alike, a change in you lifestyle can make you become a healthier person again. Think twice. Take this suggestion seriously. Some alternative practitioners will not even accept to work with you if you keep smoking. Smoke rolls over the cilia of the mucus membrane like a bulldozer. Smoking is the wrong habit for people with sinusitis. If you think you are not strong enough to quit, get professional help (psychologist). If you think you could quit smoking but you don’t want to: this is the sign you are truly addicted. Get help (psychologist). Hypnotherapy can help you in days to quit. It’s easy, do it.

    Additional sleep:
This is one of the most important tasks for you. Add 1 or 2 hours of sleep at the weekend at least. Try to avoid unnecessary tasks in your live and free up time to rest.

    Allergies:
Try to find out if you have an allergy causing the sinusitis. It can be difficult to do so. If you happen to have an allergy causing the sinusitis, you need a consequent treatment with a potent, modern histamine antagonist. Do not simply get over the counter drugs for this becuase they may be too weak.

Taking the suggestions of your ORL seriously, consider the following measures, as described above, if you do not have an allergy:

Trade names may differ in your country. The following are the active pharmaceutical ingredients mentioned in the table:

    ·       “Inhalation”: The following ingredients are suggested: 57% Cineole, 29% Levomenthol, 14 % racematic campher
(suggestion: Transpulmin ® - a Balm, which is put in hot water to inhale)

    ·       Ortiven®: Nasal decongestant with Xylometazoline
    ·       Aniflazym® Takeda: 1 Tablet contains: 5 mg Serrapeptase (=10,000 units)
    ·       Nasodren: Natural extract of cyclamen europeum L
    ·       Perenterol® Forte: 250 mg dry yeast with saccharomyces boulardii
    ·       Paracetamol: (also: Acetaminophen), Painkiller with
    N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide. Don’t overuse!

    ·       Diclophenac: Painkiller with
    2-(2-(2,6-dichlorophenylamino)phenyl)acetic acid. Don’t overuse!

    ·      The author is not a physician. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Read all package inserts carefully before you start taking/using medicines. If a medicine has been prescribed for you, do not pass it on to others. It may harm them, even if their symptoms are the same as yours. If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

29%Levomenthol,14%racematic campher
    (建议:Transpulmin ® - 一个万金油,这在热水吸提出)

    · Ortiven ®:与Xylometazoline鼻鼻塞

    · Aniflazym ®武田:1片包含:5毫克Serrapeptase(= 1万辆)

    · Diclophenac:
