Part 2 of Chapter Two: My Personal List of the Top 8 Early Warning Symptoms

Symptoms associated with exposure to inflammation

  • Fatigue: Are you overly tired, for example after work? Is your energy level extremely low? Do you feel going to the gym or doing your usual round of jogging will be too much for you today after or before work? Do you feel a little sick and even more tired when you ignore the warning sign and still do your jogging or gym or whatever? Yes? THEN STOP IT. Get over your ego, just as I did. Start to sleep as much as you can. Use the weekend to sleep. Use the work days’ evenings to go to bed earlier. Cancel the dinner date with your friends, postpone the cinema date with this new person you just met. They won’t run away. Reduce everything to the minimum. An inflammation could be present in your sinuses. A sinusitis could be just around the corner.

Take the symptoms seriously. I know this seems like it will make your life more boring, but in fact you are just being more honest to yourself. You will feel so much better after you have slept more. Forget your goddamn gym training plan, your golf club pals, your horseback riding activities. What is it good for if you get sick every other month with sinusitis? You need to become healthy first. After this you can slowly start to work out intensely, go jogging, dancing or fighting again. Chances are that you will be able to practice your sport again just as you did this before you got sinusitis. But this takes a little time. Maybe three or four or six months. Give your body a break and give yourself the time to learn more about this illness.

  • Diarrhea: Do you have a sour stomach? Do you produce soft excrements? Does your lower belly hurt? I am not an expert on this, but let me share one fact with you: Every time I had a sinusitis, a light form of Diarrhea went before that. I had this for 3 or more days. Maybe a week. Then the sinusitis came. There are quite a few people who talk about the dependencies between the mucous membrane of the respiratory system and the digestive system.
It is a proven fact that overly sour milieus will harm all mucous membranes. I have learned that a healthy digestion and overall health are directly interconnected. If you have Diarrhea, eat healthier and see a doctor. Do not only take something against the symptoms but improve the overall situation. Later chapters will tell you how.

  • Cold feet / Cold nose: Do you feel like your feet are often too cold when at work or generally during the day? There is a link between the temperature of your feet and your nose. This not a zen-like thing – it’s a scientific fact. However, cold feet are more often noticed than a cold nose. In many cases, you nose will also be too cold and you are about to catch a cold.

  • Rhinitis: Do you have a cold? How many tissues do you need on one day? More than two? A normal rhinitis and also hay fever can become the origin of a quickly spreading inflammation of the sinuses, especially if you have sour mucous membrane or an anatomical predisposition for sinusitis. Fight every rhinitis, take this seriously. A rhinitis is not a necessary condition for a sinusitis, but it can become dangerous for your health. Avoid the situations that make you get a rhinitis. Avoid the swimming club if you get a cold from the chlorine in the swimming pool water. Keep your nose warm at work by standing up and walking around. Keep your feet warm. I will tell you more lately.

  • Nasal secretion “street”: Can you recognize a line of secretion running down the back your throat? This can be a sign for sinusitis. See the picture below:

    • Night sweat: Not all cases of night sweat indicate that you have an infection. You could also have a problem with your heart. However, if you sweat at night and have other symptoms such as cold hands and feet, consult a doctor to find out what the problem is. For me, night sweat is a symptom that fits well into other early symptoms of sinusitis.
If you have unspecific tooth ache, cold feet, a rhinitis and fatigue, chances are that the next sinusitis episode is around the corner.

    Psychological Symptoms

    • Feelings of agitation or being overwhelmed: For some people, (and at least for me at some times) the distinct symptoms are not visible enough to be noticed. However, at times, we will feel agitated and overstressed instead. A little tired in the morning and pumped out already at noon.
If you feel agitated, if you sweat quickly, when just doing light work or walking up a light slope, or if you feel like you are not up to the tasks you normally are able to manage, lay down in the evening and close your eyes. Check if you can feel the other symptoms described above.
If there is nothing – fine. If you consult this list of symptoms and can clearly spot a few symptoms, slow down and do something against a proliferation of bacteria in your nose as described in the next chapter.
     Kind regards,
    Marcus
